I have a top-spec 2015 iMac 27 a top-spec 2015 15" rMBP, and a 2012 iMac 27. Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply! When you say it's nowhere near the power of a desktop do you mean exporting speed or general speed while working in the timeline? I hope some of you could give me some advice if the Iris Pro is a safe choice. I havent been able to find a lot of users commenting on real life performance. I don't mind if the render times will be a bit longer, I just need the timeline to be workable while using Color Finale/Grading. These results look really impressive and I feel it won't be worth the 600euro increase to get a new model with dedicated GPU. Imac retina 27 inch, 3,5 GHz i5, 8Gb Ram, AMD Radeon R9 M290X with 2Gb = 43s MacBook Pro 15 inch 2.2Ghz i7, 16Gb Ram, Iris Pro with 1.5Gb = 60s MacBook Pro 13 inch, 2.7Ghz i5, 8Gb Ram, Intel Iris 6100 with 1.5Gb = 120s I noticed a few comments on Alex4d's post that ran the BruceX benchmark on some Macs in the Apple Store: I have always been using macbook pros with a dedicated GPU, but because of the increased prices of the touchbar Macs I'm looking at the mid 2015 MacBook Pros apple still has on sale right now. I'm a reporter/director so won't be editing full-time on this Mac. But for shorter, simpler videos, I could probably just use an iPad.I'm still working on a regular MacBook Pro so I decided it's time to upgrade to a Retina MacBook Pro. Of course, the experience is still better on the Mac version right now, so I'll still stick with the Mac version for more complicated jobs. Now that Final Cut Pro is available on iPad, and it actually works quite well, it will definitely inspire me to try producing more videos on an iPad. I can type words, answer emails, and edit photos well enough on an iPad Pro, so the only thing that requires a Mac is video editing, which I do on Final Cut Pro. And even when I'm not traveling, I don't enjoy working at home staring at the same four walls I usually start my day by taking a laptop and doing work at various coffee shops around town.īecause of my nomadic lifestyle, I am always looking for the lightest work setup possible, and I've experimented with doing work entirely off an iPad. Between frequent work trips and personal trips, I am on the road at least 3–4 months of the year. I feel like we are not too far off from most people possibly getting away with just an iPad and not an actual laptop.Īlthough the term makes me cringe, I fit the definition of a "digital nomad" to a tee. WWDC is just a couple of weeks away, and there's that rumored 16-inch iPad Pro on the horizon. But perhaps the next version of iPadOS or the next iPad Pro will fix a lot of these issues. After I rendered a video, it took me two minutes of digging around before I found the file. The filing system in iOS/iPadOS is also still a bit complicated. This could be annoying for those with lower storage variants of iPads since video files could quickly fill up storage. You must port the media files over to the iPad to make edits. You also can't edit directly off an SSD right now. The process to add the LUT is also more convoluted on the iPad software, although that can hopefully change in the future. On the Mac version of Final Cut, you can adjust the strength of the LUT. You can either have the LUT on 100% or completely off that's it. Those who color grade their videos might also be annoyed with how Final Cut Pro for iPad handles a custom Lookup Table (LUT), which is used for color mapping. For comparison, I was editing much shorter, far less complicated videos on a Google Pixel 7 Pro using PowerDirector last week and faced constant lag when scrubbing through the timeline. For a fanless machine that's highly portable and relatively thin, that's absolutely uncanny. Just for reference, I rendered about a half dozen videos during my time testing, and for a 4K video, the rendering speeds are a bit above twice as fast as real-time, so a five-minute clip would render in a little over two minutes. In fact, I have heard peers say their M1 iPad Pro renders faster than M1 MacBook Pro, though I can't vouch for that myself. I could scrub through the timeline easily, even when I put 8K video tracks in the timeline, I could start or pause playback without lag, and rendering speeds were really fast, almost as fast as with my top-tier M2 Mac MacBook Pro. I'm using a two-year-old M1 iPad Pro, and it handled any video clip I threw at it without hiccups. Together with Nemo, Gill is the only member from the "Tank Gang" who is not bought from a store but is from the ocean. His Polish name is "Idol" (from his species) because Gil means "bullfinch" or "mucus" in Polish.Gill may have been acquainted with Marlin in the past, as his final words to Nemo before flinging him into the spit-sink were: "Tell your dad I said 'hi.'".In addition, Gill was pressuring Nemo to follow his challenging orders on his escape plan. This may be an interesting way to show Gill's deep desire for escape from the aquarium and into the ocean. Gill's species, Moorish Idols, are notoriously difficult to keep in captivity due to their diet and mannerisms. His mannerisms are quite similar to Doc Hudson from Cars.Gill's voice, as Dafoe said, is based on the character Earl Copen, whom he plays in the movie Animal Factory.Gill congratulates the gang and proclaims that they will not have any more problems, shortly before they are captured by the Marine Life Institute volunteers. They are still trapped in their respective bags, now covered with algae. In Finding Dory, Gill, along with the rest of the Tank Gang, appears in the post-credits scene. They are seen having crossed the street and jumped into the ocean to their freedom. While he complains to his secretary Barbara about the device breaking when it has a lifetime guarantee, Gill and the others make their way out of the office. Sherman's new AquaScum 2003 has broken (presumably sabotaged by the fish), he has to take his fish out, put them in bags, and clean the tank himself. Sherman puts Gill back into the tank, the Tank Gang congratulates him on finally succeeding in helping Nemo return to the ocean.Īt the end of the film, Gill and the other Tank Gang members manage to escape from Dr. With the filter sabotaged, he knew the dentist will put the fish in bags and they will have the opportunity to return to the ocean.Įventually, Gill helps Nemo escape the office by jumping onto the dentist's mirror to catapult the clownfish into the air so that he lands into a sink leading to a drain, which leads to the ocean. Learning that because Nemo is a young boy who can fit through small tubes, Gill immediately put together a plan to have him use a pebble to stop the aquarium filter. He wouldn’t listen to Nemo to swim out of the tube he was stuck in without anyone's help. Unlike the other Tank Gang members, Gill had a neutral reaction to Nemo's entrance. He is the leader of the fish living inside the dentist's office fish tank called the Tank Gang. His appearance is modeled after the voice actor who does his voice, especially the coloring around his mouth to show the deep wrinkles that Dafoe has on his face. He had made several escape attempts, but the first time, he landed on dental tools, giving him severe scars on his right side, and destroying his right fin. Gill's only dream is to escape from the tank. Not even the one where everyone gets to roll over the window in plastic bags." Gill has a genius for inventing crazy escape plans, but so far none have ever succeeded. He believes that fish were not meant to live in a box, and dreams of freedom. "The mysterious mastermind of the tank gang, moorish idol fish Gill hides a kind heart under his moody exterior. The UK’s Heatherwick Studio designed one of the development’s low-rise structures.Īrchitects who worked on the project previously told CNN that the residential interiors pay homage to Japanese craftsmanship and lifestyles, such as the way Japanese homes are usually laid out. The towers were designed by renowned US architecture firm Pelli Clarke & Partners. The wider development is expected to accommodate about 20,000 employees and 3,500 residents, along with a projected 25-35 million visitors per year. “To accommodate local traffic, we even constructed new roads running through the complex,” according to the website. Tokyo tower to become Japan's new tallest skyscraper The various structures will make up a “city within a city,” developers said. Spanning an area of more than 8 hectares (nearly 20 acres), the project aims to revitalize the entire neighborhood, with other on-site facilities including a spa, fitness clubs, an art gallery and a museum. The building, one of several within the development, will be multi-purpose, hosting branded hotel residences, office spaces, a university medical center, retail shops and restaurants, and the largest international school in central Tokyo, according to the release. The project has been under construction since 2019, with just “final touches” left to do in the coming months, according to a press release by building developer Mori Building Co. The completion of the tower, announced on Monday, brings the sprawling Azabudai Hills complex one step closer to its scheduled opening in the fall. That surpasses the Abeno Harukas skyscraper in Osaka, now Japan’s second tallest building at 300 meters (984 feet). The tower, with gently curved edges and a crown resembling flower petals, reaches 330 meters (1,083 feet) in height, with 64 floors above ground. PEAK is building bridges between international and Japanese students. The new tallest building in Japan is here - and the gleaming skyscraper is part of an expansive “modern urban village” in central Tokyo, years in the making. PEAK and non-PEAK students interact daily in many settings. The majority of courses in the Junior Division are also open to regular Japanese students (non-PEAK students), who can opt to enroll in either one of the programs in the Senior Division. PEAK students study liberal arts for their first two years in the Junior Division and then advance to the two years of specialized studies (Japan in East Asia or Environmental Sciences) in the Senior Division. Students enrolled in these programs come from many countries around the globe, including South Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, Australia, the US, Brazil, Iran, the UK, Russia, Poland and Finland. No knowledge of Japanese is required for admission, and all the courses are delivered entirely in English as a general rule. This scheme consists of two programs: “International Program on Japan in East Asia” and “International Program on Environmental Sciences,” and is open to students who have received their secondary school education in languages other than Japanese. Aiming for the creation of a global campus that attracts talented students around the world, the College of Arts and Sciences has offered undergraduate degree programs taught entirely in English on the Komaba Campus since October 2012. That doesn't mean they are not well put together, rather that you can have them pretty much any which way you like (in terms of stereo speakers, at least). The Dali Oberon 1 C speakers are an impressively flexible proposition. If you’re looking for a fun music system that also sounds hugely capable in hi-fi terms, and that you don’t have to pay over a grand for, this system is worth your attention. And that’s the best recommendation we can give to someone looking for a neat, elegant system that does it (nearly) all. Like the very best kit, we want to keep on listening to the Triangle AIO Twin. The sound quality when streaming through wi-fi is far superior. While the peppy character remains the same, it doesn’t sound as clear, precise or expressive compared with the other inputs. It’s only with the built-in phono stage does it falter. It organises the complicated strands of instruments and noises with confidence, and it's balanced across the frequencies: taut bass, clear voices and sparkling, clean treble that’s punchy but never bright. But there is also a mature sense of composure running through its veins that is really impressive. It’s an enthusiastic performer, happy to tackle any music genre and recording quality, and simply wants you to enjoy the music being played. This system is incredibly fun to listen to. Other physical connections include a digital optical input, an RCA analogue pair, a 3.5mm aux input, USB-A for charging your phone, and a subwoofer output. That's a pretty broad spectrum for its asking price. High-resolution audio support goes up to 24-bit/192kHz. It can also be a soundbar alternative for your TV.Īll the major streaming services are supported – Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, Qobuz – and you can also play internet radio using the excellent app. This system can play just about anything, from Bluetooth streams from your phone to music files stored on your home network (wired ethernet and wi-fi) to even your vinyl records thanks to a built-in phono stage. The Triangle AIO Twin may look like a pair of ‘normal’ speakers, but this is a fully-fledged, all-in-one versatile music system – akin to the superb KEF LSX II – but at half the price (£699 / $1000 / AU$1099). The cherry on the top? They come in a range of stylish colours to match your home decor. Nothing else really comes close at this level. The KEF LSX II is a stylish streaming system that comes with none of the baggage and boxes a separates set-up brings. The original LSX offered plenty of choices when it came to sources – streaming over DLNA or from Tidal, Spotify Connect, Roon compatibility and Apple AirPlay 2 – but the LSX II expands on this with wider streaming support and the modern-day addition of HMDI ARC and USB-C for TV and laptop connectivity respectively.Įssentially, KEF has taken what was already a winning formula, introduced some key upgrades that improve functionality and usability, and without really altering the speaker hardware has produced a talented set-up that sings with any genre of music sent its way. As with everything, streaming implementation costs and can affect the engineering of a product, so get a speaker with it included only if you intend to use the feature.Ĭomprising a network streamer, a Bluetooth receiver and an amplifier – all built into a pair of stereo speakers – the LSX II is a great option for those looking for convenience and musicality in two compact boxes. Which active speaker you choose should really be based on how much source integration you require. Some active speakers like the Dali speakers below are just that and require sources to be connected to them many, though, now have Bluetooth and even network streaming integrated, essentially making them all-in-one systems – such as the KEF LS systems below. That means the components can be optimised for precision rather than pure power handling, resulting in a potentially better integrated, more precise sound. These models are fed by an 'active' powered crossover that works at a much lower voltage than their passive cousins. So, a two-way speaker with one tweeter and one mid/bass driver unit will have two power amplifier modules, one for each driver (or 'way'). These have amplifiers built in as well, but this time they have one amp dedicated for each 'way'. These are referred to as 'powered' and this method is represented by most of the more affordable products on this list – such as Elac, Ruark Audio and Q Acoustics. There are also speakers that are passive in nature but still have an amplifier built in – often squirrelled away into one of the two boxes. The best thing about Geometry Wars 3 is that it brings back all the modes you remember from Retro Evolved 2 in its Classic mode.ĭeadline, King, Evolved, Pacifism, and Waves are all available for you to compete in against your friends. Maybe that’s something I’d get used to, but I’d rather just try the game on PC with an Xbox 360 controller or on Xbox One. Wiggling is an important skill in high-level Geometry Wars play, and the DualShock 4’s friction failed me a number of times. The material of the stick and the plastic of the controller create too much friction to easily move the analog stick back and forth. The second issue is that the thumb sticks are difficult to wiggle. That’s something I don’t remember having problems with on the Xbox 360 pad. That can actually cause you to die if you’re trying to quickly change directions. My first issue is that the sticks feel too long. I typically love Sony’s PlayStation 4 joypad, but it does not feel right for Geometry Wars. It also means that I’ll have to experiment to find the best combination of skills, which is something that I don’t really want to do when I boot up Geometry Wars. This time around, someone might not understand how I did so well they could find this discouraging. The nice thing about the game is that you always knew you were on even ground with all your friends. This makes getting high scores much easier.įor me, that kinda spoils the purity of Geometry Wars. As you progress through the Adventure, you’ll unlock special drones and capabilities for your spacecraft. One thing that is different in Dimensions is ship upgrades. The big thing is that every stage has a leaderboard, so you’re always competing with your friends. While Adventure mode might not sound like the score-chasing gameplay that defined previous Geometry Wars games, Lucid did a good job of building in the hooks that kept me playing Retro Evolved 2 for hours. A few boss stages break up the pace a little, but they also play like Geometry Wars. Wisely, Lucid decided to base most of these stages on modes like Deadline and Waves that it introduced in Retro Evolved 2. This is a single-player campaign made up of a few dozen individual levels. The big new addition to Dimensions is the Adventure mode. But this is Geometry Wars with more stuff. The big concern I had going into Dimensions was that developer Lucid Games would change up the formula that made the previous releases so much fun. If you’d rather watch a video, you can check out my impressions below: So I’m gonna break down Geometry Wars 3 to help you understand if it’s worth your time. We only got our hands on the game last night, so we don’t have a full review - but we think the game is worth taking a quick look at.
